Dear forum members Back in 1946 when I was making my Army Album, I pasted in (on Page 33) an Italian song sheet containing the words to "Angiolina". Does anyone know where I can hear this song on the internet, it may be under it's English title of Angelina ? The nearest I have been able to...

I would have been more surprised if there had been no changes in the people  Don't forget, it was 66 years since I was last in Sicily. We stayed, by the way, in Taormina which was only 37 miles both from Catania Airport where we landed and Messina which was my major reason for returning. I don...

A British soldier returns to Sicily after 66 years
Ciao I thought that some of the friends I've made on this forum might be interested to learn about my return to Sicily this year. I spent about a month in Sicily during the fighting in WW2 and crossed over to Italy (via the Messina Straits) in September 1943. The last time I made the trip I was in a...

Define Ancient ?
If we are talking about Ancient History then Wikipedia will explain it resonably well The term classical antiquity is often used to refer to ancient history since the beginning of recorded Greek history in about 776 BC .This coincides, roughly, with the traditional date of the founding of Rome in 75...

Interesting site
Adler
A good find !
I entered Churchill & Hussars into the search box and found a story of Churchill visiting my unit in the desert but this was well before I joined them and I already have pictures of this event.
Well worth a look so thanks for your notification.

Bill's son looking for his father's background
Hi Bill's Son  Like Larry, I was stationed in Opicina during the 1946/1947 period and (for my sins) have written a fair bit abour that period on this forum. I cannot visualise anyone holding a rank lower than that of a senior commisioned officer being allowed to live outside barracks during tha...

That terrible winter of 1946
Larry's article that mentions the winter of '46 reminded me of a piece I wrote on the BBC WW2 Archives: I consider myself a fairly active octogenarian and, unless it is raining, I kick-start my day with a three mile circuit of my local park. Despite wearing suitable clothing I confess that I DO noti...
